Tofino

This former logging and fishing village on the west coast of Vancouver Island is making its name as an ecotourism destination, famous for whale watching and enjoying the natural surroundings. The peaceful location of Tofino, on the edge of the rainforest, is a great place to spend some time on your road trip unwinding and relaxing!

This is an excellent base for hiking and there are miles of trails to explore both inside and out of the nearby Pacific Rim National Park Reserve. This area also has some fantastic sandy beaches and for those who want to get out and enjoy the waves along this stretch of coastline, Tofino is the perfect place to do so; after all this is the surfing capital of Canada!

When the waters are calm, take a kayak over to Meares Island where you’ll find pristine rainforest walks, or take a boat tour to Hot Springs Cove. Situated about 27 miles northwest of Tofino this great little spot is only accessible via boat or floatplane and once you arrive there involves a short hike through the forest. Along the way watch out for whales from the boat, or better yet join a whale watching tour if it’s the right time of year.

After a fun-filled day make your way back to the beaches south of the town and watch one of
the world’s great sunsets as the sun drifts down slowly over the Pacific Ocean – simply beautiful!
We can make those arrangements for sea kayaking or for the Explorer Boat Tour to Hot Springs Cove, just let us know what you’d like to do while in Tofino.

Quick Facts:
--- Tofino’s small population of around 1,700 people swells dramatically in the summer season as nature enthusiasts, campers, and surfers come to enjoy the area.
--- Tofino’s town and beaches have been used in several movies such as the 2005 remake of The Fog, and the sequel to ‘Twilight’, called ‘New Moon’.
