Redwood National Park

Jointly managed as the Redwood National and State Parks this area protects California’s remaining redwood trees which once stood here in abundance. The beautiful forests of these parks make way for rivers, grassland prairies, and 37 miles of the most stunning and untouched coastline, making this a wonderful place to spend some time on your next family vacation.

Redwoods are amazing trees that can live for 2000 years and grow to be the tallest trees on earth with heights of well over 300 feet. In fact the tallest tree on earth is right here in Redwood National Park and stands a height of 379 feet. Unfortunately this is in a hidden location so you won’t be seeing this tree on most hikes in the park.

The best way to really experience these national and state parks is by walking. Get out of your car or RV and take some walks in amongst the trees, making use of the nearly 200 miles of hiking trails. Along some trails you can also go on horseback or mountain bike and cover more ground. The coastal sections of the parks are best seen from the water itself, so try a spot of kayaking or canoeing along the coast or the Smith River. Fishing for salmon and steelhead is permitted as long as you have a state fishing license.

The Jedediah Smith Redwoods State Park offers hiking trails too, and after a long hike what better way to cool off than in one of the park’s great swimming holes?! They’re so refreshing!

You and your family may be interested in the Redwoods walking or hiking tour that we can arrange for you; either a two hour easy walking tour with a guide who will give you a great introduction to the forest ecology, or a more demanding four hour hike in which you can choose a particular area of interest. Either one will have you leaving here more knowledgeable than when you arrived!
