Jackson

Jackson, Wyoming is a lovely little town and one of the major gateways for visiting both Grand Teton and Yellowstone National Parks. With its largely western themed shopping and dining district this attractive town warrants more than just a passing glance.

Nestled between the mountains within the Jackson Hole Valley, Jackson is just a short distance south of Grand Teton National Park, which is in turn just south of Yellowstone National Park. The area is well known for winter activities, especially at the famous Jackson Hole ski resort, but Jackson is a top summer destination too. Spending time in Jackson on your family vacation opens the door to all manner of outdoor activities, from mountain biking to hiking, rafting to rock climbing, and plentiful opportunities for wildlife viewing too.

Watching a rodeo may sound like the ultimate cliché for a vacation out west, but the JH Rodeo makes for a fabulous evening of family fun.  It is run by local folks, and there are as many locals in the audience as tourists.  Another T&T-approved family attraction is the National Elk Refuge.  And don't miss Jackson’s most-photographed sights.  The four arches marking the corners of the Town Square are actually constructed from elk antlers! You say you heard gunfire?  Of course you did.  That's just some local cowboys staging a shootout around the corner.

And if all those attractions aren’t enough to keep you occupied on your road trip, we can arrange a half-day family fishing trip or a thrulling raft trip on the Snake River that includes a scenic float, breakfast, and whitewater rafting all in one!

Quick Facts:

--- The town of Jackson is often mistakenly called Jackson Hole. Jackson Hole is actually the name of the valley that the town sits within, and also the name of the famous ski resort about 15 minutes out of town.

--- Jackson Hole Airport is one of only two airports in the country located within the boundaries of a national park; in this case, Grand Teton National Park. The other is Provincetown Municipal Airport on Cape Cod, Massachusetts.
