Great Sand Dunes National Park

Great Sand Dunes hikerIf you’re traveling through the  southern parts of  Colorado, you  shouldn't pass up a chance to see the Great Sand Dunes National Park. It's unlike any other wilderness park in the USA where the massive sand dunes could have you thinking you've traveled to Egypt, instead of Colorado!

There is much more to be seen at Great Sand Dunes beside the sand dunes themselves. The park has lots of other wilderness environments for you to enjoy, including a wide creek, wetlands and even mountain ranges. There are marked trails going through all these areas, once you're done romping on the sand.

Though the remarkable sand dunes may remind you of the beach, being at a high altitude means the sand will get very hot when the sun is out, even if the air temperature is cool. Don't even think about strolling around those dunes in your bare feet – keep those shoes on!

Great Sand Dunes National Park can be explored on horseback, or take a guided tour to make sure you see all the sights. Off-roading in a 4-wheel drive is a particularly popular way to get around, and we can arrange the perfect tour for you and your family. Let us know how you'd like to see Great Sand Dunes National Park, and we can arrange all the details.

While in the area you might like to visit the Zapata Falls, which can make a cool detour if the sands are getting too hot for you. The Rio Grande National Forest and San Luis Lake State Park are two other nearby spots you might want to explore too.

Quick Facts:

-- The tallest dunes in the park are more than 700 feet high.

-- Some dunes are made up of unique black sand, containing magnetite.
