Out in the Sonoran Desert is the city
of Tucson. It's a great place for a vacation, not only for the attractions in
the city, but also for all the great desert countryside that's just waiting to
be explored. This family favorite of a city offers both indoor and outdoor
activities.
A short drive south of Tucson is the
Titan Missile Museum for something a little different. You can tour an old
Cold-War-era missile silo, complete with a Titan missile (don’t worry, it's
harmless!). Another place for a bit of history is the Arizona-Sonora Desert
Museum. Part zoo, part botanical garden, it's a world-class facility that's fun as well as educational
for the whole family.
Once you're done with all the city
sights, you can strike out into the wilderness at one of the national parks
within easy driving distance. One that you'll particularly enjoy is the Saguaro
National Park.
There are actually 2 halves to this
park, one to the east of Tucson and the other to the west. They are not
directly connected, so if you're looking for a particular feature of the park,
make sure you head the right way! Either side of the park offers great desert scenery and opportunities to take some photos of the
impressive saguaro cacti that are found all through the park.

You should plan on visiting Tucson
during the fall, winter or spring as it can get pretty hot and uncomfortable
during the summer months.
