Staying In Touch
Communications on an RV Vacation
While your modern RV will make you feel right at home in the boonies,
you are still camping. A few of the more highly-developed campgrounds
have wireless broadband on the premises, but that's the exception,
not the rule. (And those are not always the nicest campgrounds in
the neighborhood.) Most privately owned campgrounds will let you
plug into a jack in their office - unless their line is in use. If
at all possible, just let your email pile up while you're away or
have someone else handle it for you.
By all means, bring your cell phone. Phones from most of the major companies
will work along much of your route, but there will be places where you will not
have service. A prepaid long distance calling card makes payphone calls affordable.
If being in touch at all times is essential (is it really?), then you might consider
renting a satellite telephone.
