Aspen

Well known as a playground for the rich and famous, visitors to Aspen shouldn’t be surprised if you see a celebrity face or two while you're here, though with all the great outdoor activities you might be so busy, you won't even notice!

Sure, Aspen is best known as a skiing destination, but there is so much more to do here at any time of the year. There’s a multitude of great hiking trails for walking or horse-back riding, fly fishing expeditions, white-water rafting trips or even exploring some of the old local mines. And don't miss the shopping in Aspen. Where else in Colorado can you browse for Prada, Louis Vuitton or Fendi? These are not your typical tacky souvenir shops!

When you're planning your road trip to Aspen, try to head up Independence Pass if you're coming from Denver. The mountain views along this route are something else, but with the steep gradients and switchbacks the going can be tough. Large RVs can usually navigate the pass with some careful planning, though much larger vehicles are not allowed to travel this way.

Not far from Aspen are the Maroon Bells. This two peaked mountain is situated within the Elk Mountains and is said to be the most photographed spot in Colorado! It’s one of those amazing places where you can photograph a mountain scene worthy of being on a postcard, even if you’re not the world’s best photographer!
